Pedroia leaves game early with wrist injury

CHICAGO — Red Sox second baseman was injured in a first inning collision at first base with Chicago's Jose Abreu.

Pedroia grounded a ball to first and the two players raced to first. Abreu slid foot first and Pedroia tumbled over him, landing awkwardly on his left wrist as he fell forward.

Though he attempted to play the field in the bottom of the first inning, Pedroia ultimately left the game due to the injury. He is returning to Boston for further testing and evaluation, according to manager John Farrell.

In 2014, Pedroia underwent surgery on his left wrist.
