FOXBORO — The Patriots have signed free agent running back Rex Burkhead, who played his first three NFL seasons with the Bengals.
Burkhead, originally a sixth-round pick of the Bengals in 2013, spent three seasons in Cincinnati, rushing for a total of 375 yards while scoring three touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes in three seasons.
Burkhead joins Dion Lewis, James White and DJ Foster and Tyler Gaffney in the Patriots backfield. LeGarrette Blount remains unsigned.
