No. 9 Milford joins Top 10 Poll after narrow win over Mansfield

DEDHAM, Mass. — Following their three-point win over the Mansfield Hornets this weekend, the Milford Scarlet Hawks have jumped into the Boston 25 High School Football Top 10 Poll. Milford earned the No. 9 ranking in the commonwealth thanks to a 27-24 win over a Mansfield team that was ranked No. 6 in the poll just two weeks ago.

The top three teams in the state remained the same for yet another consecutive week after big wins by No. 1 Catholic Memorial, No. 2 Everett and No. 3 St. John’s Prep. The top-ranked Knights and the hot-on-their-heels Crimson Tide both blanked their opponents, 44-0, this weekend, with CM shutting out St. John’s (Shrewsbury) and Everett crushing Lynn Classical.

The Eagles of St. John’s Prep maintained their No. 3 ranking in the commonwealth thanks to a 39-21 win over Malden Catholic.

No. 4 Xaverian and No. 5 Lincoln-Sudbury flip-flopped their respective spots from a week ago despite both earning big wins this week. The Hawks grabbed the higher ranking following a 49-22 drubbing of Catholic Conference foe BC High, while L-S downed Acton-Boxborough, 49-13, last Thursday.

No. 6 Central Catholic, No. 7 Franklin and No. 8 Reading all stood pat in this week’s ranking as well with a trio of victories. The Raiders shut out Lowell, 41-0, the Panthers kept on rolling with a 35-0 victory over Taunton, and the No. 8 Rockets took down Middlesex League opponent Woburn, 26-17, in Boston 25′s High School GameDay Game of the Week.

No. 10 Marshfield narrowly held on to the final spot in the Top 10 Poll by one vote after beating Hingham, 34-13. Their grip on the No. 10 spot and the arrival of Milford in the rankings dropped Marblehead, formerly No. 9 in the commonwealth, from the poll by a single vote.

The Magicians were the only non-ranked team to receive votes in this week’s ranking.
