World Series trophy visits Statehouse

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox World Series trophy has made a stop at the Massachusetts Statehouse.

A smiling Gov. Deval Patrick, wearing a Red Sox cap, posed for pictures with the trophy in the Governor's Council chambers on Thursday. Staff members were then given an opportunity to have their pictures taken with the trophy - the third the Red Sox have captured since 2004.

The team capped a stunning turnaround from its last place finish a year ago by beating the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, with the clinching Game 6 victory coming at Fenway Park last week.

The trophy was accompanied to the Statehouse by a couple of team officials, but no players attended the event.
