McDaniels reportedly headed to Indianapolis

FOXBORO — Josh McDaniels will reportedly accept the head coaching job in Indianapolis upon the conclusion of the Patriots season. NFL Media reported this afternoon McDaniels would be offered the job.

McDaniels has led the Patriots offense since 2012, when he returned to the franchise after stints in Denver and St. Louis. His success working with Tom Brady and leading the Patriots to six straight AFC Championship Games has made McDaniels an attractive candidate for a head coaching position.

Patriots special teams captain Matthew Slater shared his thoughts on McDaniels this afternoon as the team began preparations for Sunday's matchup against Jacksonville.

"I think Josh is such a brilliant guy," said Slater. "He’s really smart, and he has a great ability to relate with the guys and communicate what we need to get done from day-to-day. We’re fortunate to have him here. He’s one of our leaders, leading our offense with his mind, with his thinking, with his ability to connect with the men in that locker room. So, I think the good coaches are able to be personable when they need to be, tough when they need to be, and I think he does that and he’s been consistent for us ever since I’ve been here and playing for him off and on since my rookie year."
