Marchand signs extension with Bruins

BOSTON — The Bruins have locked up one of their top offensive players, signing Brad Marchand to an extension that keeps him in Boston through 2025.

"This is an extremely exciting day for me and my family," said Marchand. "I would like to thank the Jacobs family, Cam Neely, Don Sweeney, Claude Julien, the coaching staff, my teammates and our fans for their continued support and belief in me. I have been a Bruin since the start of my pro career and there is no place I would rather play. I look forward to doing everything I can to help our team achieve success and bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston."

Marchand, 28, has played seven seasons with the Bruins, scoring 153 goals with 136 assists. His gritty style has earned him a reputation as a rugged NHL player not averse to scrapping with opponents or being physical when necessary.

The eight-year deal is worth $6.125 million per season for a total of $49 million.
