Lou Silva will return to Marshfield sidelines for one final season

MARSHFIELD — After a week of protests and meetings calling for the retention of Lou Silva as head football coach at Marshfield High School, the school district has decided to bring the legendary coach back for the 2017 season.

Silva will retire from the head coaching position at the conclusion of the 2017 season.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to coach one more season and I appreciate the administration for being open minded and willing to allow me to return as head coach," said Silva. "At this time, I also want to announce that I will be retiring from coaching at the close of the 2017 season, so I can spend more time with my family. I have been very fortunate to coach so many great young men and to be a part of this tremendous community. Marshfield football means so much to me and my family and I can't wait to start working with the kids."

“Lou Silva has been the face of Marshfield football for over 40 years and he will be able to finish his career at the helm of a program he has worked so hard for,” said Marshfield High School principal Robert Keuther.

Late last week, Silva was told he would not return for the 2017 season and the Marshfield community rallied in his support.
