The WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund telethon provides us with inspirational stories, and hope that we can continue to make progress in the fight against cancer.
On Tuesday night at Fenway 14-year old Jimmy Fund patient Hannah Wertens gave an incredibly courageous performance of "God Bless America" that brought out an emotional response from the Fenway Park crowd.
She's fighting her third bout of leukemia and non-stop complications from two bone marrow transplants.
“I Had my first bout at 2 1/2 and I relapsed at 5 and I had my second bone marrow transplant at 6,” she said.
Hannah has spent much of her young life in the hospital or at home in isolation. During a recent stay at Boston Children’s Hospital a representative of the Jimmy Fund asked if she would like to perform at Fenway in front of nearly 40,000 people.

“It was amazing. I've never had that many people cheer for me before. And it was my first real big debut I guess,” Hannah said.
Hannah spent weeks practicing for the big performance.
“It was one of her dreams and it's wonderful to see that she's accomplished one of her dreams,” Hannah’s mother Debbie Kirchner said.
Hannah has and always will dream big.
“I want to be an actress and singer and dancer and a model. And with the money I make I'm going to build my own foundation to help other kids and families,” she said.
