• Melrose beats Stoneham in classic Game of the Week


    MELROSE - A game that pitted two undefeated high school teams from the Middlesex League did not disappoint as Melrose outlasted Stoneham, winning a classic matchup 44-38 in overtime.

    The host Raiders overcame eight-point deficits twice in the fourth quarter to force overtime and scored on their first possession to take a six-point lead.

    Stoneham, looking to answer and win with a touchdown and conversion, was stopped at the three yard line on 4th and Goal to clinch the win for Melrose.

    Tre Pignone scored four touchdowns for the Spartans, who dropped to 4-1 with the loss. Rey Guity scored three times for Melrose, who improved to 5-0 with the win.

    Melrose junior Isaac Seide scored two touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime.
