Dustin Pedroia has knee surgery, out for approximately seven months

BOSTON — Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia had a successful knee surgery Wednesday morning, the organization said.

The left-knee cartilage restoration procedure was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY.

The Red Sox said "it is anticipated Pedroia would return to the games in approximately seven months," meaning he would likely miss the beginning of the 2018 season.

This isn't the first time Pedroia struggled with knee injuries this year. Pedroia was placed on the 10-day disabled list in August with inflammation on his left knee.

The 34-year-old is under contract with the club until 2021.
