Danica Patrick gets Tour of Boston

BOSTON — Nascar driver Danica Patrick was in Boston on Wednesday both to visit the city and to promote the upcoming Monster Energy NASCAR series upcoming race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Overton's 301 will be held in New Hampshire on July 16.  Danica will be racing on that day.

"Boston is a great sports town and I feel like there is a certain respect and admiration for all sports here and we feel the love here in Nascar," said Patrick when asked about the climate for Nascar in New England.

Patrick started her day on Wednesday in Cambridge with a huge welcome from the students and faculty  at the Warren Prescott School.  The welcome was complete with a song from the chorus, a band and the entire student body there to great Danica.

"I don't think I've gotten a reception like that in my life, ever," said Patrick as she addressed the crowd.

Immediately following the reception, Danica boarded a trolly along with eight students from the school who were chosen to be tour guides for the trip.  The tour went from Charlestown and ended at the Boston Public Gardens. Along the way there were stops at the Bunker HIll Monument, Fanueil Hall and the Sam Adams Statue and then a Swan boat ride at the end.

The students were great as tour guides and they were thrilled to be part of this.  "They have been talking about this for the last two weeks.  They have been so excited. They've learned so much about her, about Boston history, about strong female role models. This has been a great experience," said Tina Champagne from the Warren Prescott School.

Two of the student tour guides were Sophie Landrum and Ofira Lam.  They were both thrilled to be able to tell Danica all about Boston on the tour.

"I was real excited and I was so honored to be chosen.  She is so inspirational. She's taught me so much about sports and about how anything you put your mind to you can achieve," said Landrum.

"I'm really honored to show her around because she is really inspirational to women and girls all around the world," said Lam.

"Days like today when you hear that you are an inspiration, that's the good stuff," said a humbled Patrick.

"Those girls were incredible.  They did a great job today and so did the school in preparing them and challenging them," said Patrick
