BU, Northeastern make NCAA hockey tournament

DEDHAM — A trio of local Men’s college hockey teams will be playing in the NCAA hockey tournament.

Providence, which finished the regular season at 23-11-4, drew the No. 2 seed in the East Region and will take on third-seeded Clarkson (23-10-6) Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Friars were led by 16 goals and 19 assists from Mansfield native Erik Foley; classmate Hayden Hawkey had a 2.10 GAA in net. The game will be held at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Northeastern, which finished the regular season at 23-9-5, received the No. 3 seed in the Northeast Region and will battle second-seeded Michigan (20-14-3) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Worcester’s DCU Center. Braintree resident and junior Adam Gaudette paced the Huskies’ attack with 30 goals and 30 assists. Freshman Cayden Primeau posted a stellar 1.88 GAA in net.

Boston University, which finished the regular season at 21-13-4, will be the No. 4 seed in the Northeast Region and take on top-seeded Cornell (25-5-2) Saturday at 1 p.m. at the DCU Center. Junior Bobo Carpenter (20 goals, 13 assists) of North Redding and classmate Jordan Greenway (12 goals, 21 assists) highlight the Terriers’ offense. Sophomore goalie Jake Oettinger had a 2.42 GAA.

Not in
Boston College (20-14-3) will not be competing for its fifth championship as the Eagles missed the tournament for the second straight season and third time since 2009.
