2017 US Senior Open, Salem Country Club is the place to be

PEABODY, Mass. — The best senior golfers in the world will be in Peabody, Massachusetts in the summer of 2017.  It's the 38th US Senior Open Championship and Salem County Club is only the fourth course to be hosting this championship for a second time.

“Salem Country Club could not be prouder to put on what will be our sixth major championship from over the years”, said William Sheehan, General Chairmain 2017 US Senior Open Championship.

“This is a big deal because it’s something that happens once in a generation.  It happened sixteen years ago here at Salem with the 2001 US Senior Open Championship.  And that was a huge success.  This tournament in 2017 will be another great success.  It’s the chance to see the worlds best players competing for their national championship”, said Eddie Carbone, Executive Director 2017 US Senior Open Championship.

When this tournament was held at Salem County Club in 2001 it was a great event on many levels. They had huge crowds. It was sold out well in advance and they had a fantastic finish where Bruce Fleisher outdueled Isao Aoki and Jack Nicklaus down the stretch to come away with the championship.

“2001 was an extraordinary tournament. We were hoping Jack Nicklaus could have won.  It would have been neat to have Nicklaus win here.  But people had a wonderful time. It’s kind of like being a part of the circus when the circus comes to town to be involved with something like this”, said Stephen Freyer longtime member at Salem and part of the Executive Committee for the 2017 event.

Tickets are on sale now for this championship at www.2017ussenioropen.com.

This championship promises to be a great event.

“Watching the seniors compete for a championship is fun for the average golfer because we are a little bit more able to relate to the game that the seniors are playing.  Plus you are going to be up close and personal.  You are going to be able to see a golf course that’s a classic. And one of the really neat things about this tournament is that kids 17 and under will be admitted free” , says Freyer

Morgan Goldstein, who is the Marketing and New Media Manager for the 2017 US Senior Open Championship, says this is an event you need to be at. “This is the first time this scale of an event is coming back in sixteen years and it’s really an event to be at.  It’s like saying what’s the difference between watching a Red Sox game on TV and going to Fenway to get the fan experience. This is the fan experience in your own backyard, so it’s a great opportunity to see these golfers in real life and to be part of the action yourself”, says Goldstein.

The event will take place June 26th through July 2, 2017 at Salem Country Club.  For tickets and more information go to www.2017ussenioropen.com.
