Firehouse Friday: Camp Bailout Program

These girls are on fire

The Ashland Fire Department is home to the Camp Bailout Program, a weeklong summer program for young women to learn all about the fire service and EMS services. Lieutenant Lyn Moraghan was inspired to bring this program to Massachusetts after hearing about similar programs launching all across the country. The young women learn the service through hands-on and interactive experiences. Volunteers from various department, including the police service and emergency medicine services, speak with the young women about their jobs, their experiences, giving advice.  It’s about building friendships and finding mentors. Some young women are inspired to join the fire service after the camp, first by joining the Explorer Posts, and ultimately area fire departments. While Lt. Moraghan is eager for these young women to learn about the fire service, she is just as excited to watch them grow as individuals and recognize that they are capable of doing anything they put their minds to. Campers, parents, friends, and mentors all witness the astounding growth in these young women throughout the program.

Thank you to the Ashland Fire Department for keeping the community safe and for investing in the education of our future leaders!
