Zamboni crashes at Boston Winter skating rink

BOSTON — A zamboni at Boston Winter crashed while cleaning the ice Friday evening, knocking over a fence.

Delaware North, the company behind Boston Winter, said the zamboni driver somehow lost control of the ice-grooming vehicle. No one was injured in the crash, though part of the wall surrounding the ice rink appears to be damaged.

The driver was taken to an area hospital, her condition is unknown. The zamboni was towed from the scene.

The rink at City Hall Plaza was closed the rest of the night, although the rest of Boston Winter remained open through Friday evening.

TD Gardens Operations is sending over some folks to inspect the rink to check and see if there was any damage, but the Mayor's office doesn't believe there was.

Boston Winter, an ice rink and shopping area on City Hall Plaza, has been quite popular since it opened a few weeks ago. It is set to be open through the winter.
