• Youth mentor arraigned on rape charges

LYNN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Lynn man was arrested and arraigned on child rape charges after his victim came forward and detailed the abuse he had suffered years before.

In January, the 28-year-old victim reported to Lynn police that  when he was between the ages of 10 and 16, Victor Canaan, now 61, raped him. The two met through the Curwin Circle Youth Program.

Additionally, the victim said he had recently been approached by a man who said he had seen a video of Canaan performing a sexual act on the victim.

Canaan was arraigned Tuesday in Salem Superior Court on five counts of rape of a child. A grand jury issued a warrant for his arrest. He was held on $100,000 cash bail and was ordered to surrender his passport, stay away from the victim and have no contact with children under the age of 18.

Canaan will appear in court next on July 24.
