Wynn investigation may impact future of Everett casino

Wynn Resorts has hired a committee to help investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against former CEO Steve Wynn.

The special committee is separate from the company's board; they will be reviewing the resorts' policies and procedures for workplace safety.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is also looking into the allegations. Their findings could impact the future of the Everett casino.

Rep. Mike Capuano's district includes the Wynn Boston Harbor. He says the future of the resort casino in Everett comes down to who knew what - and when - about the one-time owner.

"If the entire board is implicated in this wrong doing, that's a real serious problem and I think the state should take action. But it has to take action with in light of the people who would actually work there," said Capuano.

Wynn Boston Harbor sent Boston 25 News the following statement:

"This week, more than 1,300 union construction workers a day were employed at our job site. Work has reached its peak stage and we are on schedule for the June, 2019, opening of Wynn Boston Harbor. Still 16 months from opening, the jobs and spending created by Wynn Boston Harbor has already had an amazing impact on families, businesses and communities all across Massachusetts."

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh once fought Wynn on bringing his casino here. Now, Walsh says it's up to the state's gaming commission which is currently reviewing Wynn Resorts and the company's gaming license.

Walsh says he's watching closely.

"They have a responsibility to see about suitability to see how to move forward and you know, I'll work with the Gaming Committee. I'm waiting to see what they do," said Walsh.

Boston 25 News spoke with the gaming commission Tuesday; they said they don't have an update on when the review might be finished.

Most lawmakers agree it's not an option to just leave an empty building that's halfway done.

Officials at Wynn Boston Harbor say the work has reached its peak stage and they're on schedule to open in June 2019.
