Worcester officer granted bail in domestic assault

DUDLEY, Mass. (AP) - A veteran Worcester police officer has been granted $5,000 bail with house arrest and electronic monitoring in a domestic assault case.

Forty-two-year-old Robert Farrar of Southbridge has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated assault and battery. He was arrested at his home last week.

Farrar had been held pending a dangerousness hearing Wednesday in Dudley District Court. The Telegram & Gazette reports that prosecutors, with consent of the alleged victim, withdrew the request for a dangerousness hearing in favor of bail and house arrest with conditions.

He was ordered to stay 100 yards away from the alleged victim, and his home, and to follow a restraining order. He has surrendered his firearms.

His attorney said a place is being sought for Farrar to stay if he posts bail.

Farrar has been placed on administrative leave.
