Worcester couple, R.I. man killed in wrong-way crash

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Three people, including an accused wrong-way driver, are dead following an early morning crash in Rhode Island.

The nearly head-on crash involving two cars happened at about 3 a.m. Sunday on Route 146 near Route 99 in North Smithfield, R.I.

Investigators say one driver, identified as 39-year-old Aldo Almanzar, of North Smithfield, was traveling south on the northbound side of the road when he collided with another car.

Two passengers in the other car, Alexis Correa and Isabel Vasquez, both 21 year olds from Worcester, died in the crash.

Andrew Hilow, 29, of Worcester, was driving the car. Hilow sustained serious injuries, but is listed in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

Investigators say Almanzar, who was unlicensed, died in the crash. He was reportedly not wearing his seat belt.

Family members of Correa say he and Isabel were in a relationship and that the couple was out celebrating Isabel's birthday when the crash happened. Isabel, the mother of a 19-month-old girl, was turning 22 Monday.
