Woman sues Children's Hospital after being fired for refusing flu shot

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A woman sued Children's Hospital Boston after being fired for refusing to get a flu shot.

The woman, Leontine Robinson, opted out of the flu shot due to her Islamic beliefs, according to The Boston Business Journal. After being fired for not receiving the shot, Robinson decided to sue Boston Children's Hospital, saying that her civil rights were violated.

Some Muslims decide to refrain from flu shots because they contain a small amount of pork gelatine, the Boston Business Journal reported.

Robinson worked in patient care at Children's for a year before the flu shot requirement was made official in 2006. She was able to refuse the shots at first without complaint, but in 2011 the hospital's policy became more strict and Robinson was fired for not getting one.

As a result of the suit, Robinson is hoping for back pay and other compensation.
