Woman sprays man with gasoline in attempt to thwart carjacking

TEWKSBURY, Mass. — Police continue to search for a man accused of stealing a woman’s vehicle as she desperately tried to stop him.

The woman was pumping gas on Andover Street Saturday night when someone got into her car and the woman tried to spray him with gasoline.

"She said that her car got stolen, someone took off with her car," a gas station attendant told FOX25. "When she wasn't paying attention, pumping her own gas, he just hopped right in and tried to take off with it. He tried to close the door and she fought back."

Surveillance video shows the suspect getting into the car as the woman tries to fight him off. He took off, dragging her along the vehicle, but fortunately she was not seriously injured, police said.

Police identified the suspect as William Tighe, 32, though he remains at large with the stolen vehicle.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police.
