Arrest warrant issued for alleged domestic stabbing of Dracut woman

DRACUT, Mass. — The Middlesex DA's Office has issued an arrest warrant for a man believed to be involved in an incident in Dracut that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Dracut police said they responded to a 911 call from the home on Sesame Street just after midnight. When they arrived at the home they found the woman suffering from life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Boston hospital.

Tuesday night, officials say they have issued an arrest warrant for 59-year-old James O'Neil for assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault and battery. This warrant is in connection with the alleged stabbing of the Dracut woman.

This case has left neighbors stunned, wondering what may have happened in their community.

"I'm concerned, I don't know the people who live in that house but obviously nobody wants that happening in their neighborhood," said Cindy Benedict, a neighbor. "It's scary, nobody wants this in their neighborhood. I have grandchildren in this neighborhood too."

As police struggled to save the woman's life, officers responded to reports of a serious crash on the intersection of Methuen Street and Parker Road.

The District Attorney's office said, in a statement, they believe O'Neil may have been driving from the Sesame Street house. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Due to those injuries, he has not yet been arrested and no arraignment has been scheduled.

Police stressed there is no threat to the public. The investigation will continue.
