Woman found guilty of charge stemming from 2010 hit-and-run death

SALEM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A jury has found Steffany Barbanti guilty of a charge stemming from the 2010 hit-and-run death of an 81-year-old Saugus man.

Though the 24-year-old pleaded not guilty during her arraignment back in January 2010, a jury found her guilty of leaving the scene of an accident with injury resulting in death Thursday afternoon.

On January 28, 2010, Christos Agganis was struck and killed crossing Central Street to get to his nephew's restaurant for dinner.

The case went unsolved for two years until information featured on FOX 25 led to Barbanti's arrest. Barbanti was arrested two years to the day Agganis was struck and killed.

Barbanti could face up to 10 years in state prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 16.
