AVON, Mass. — A 23-year-old woman was flown to the hospital after a serious crash on Route 24 in Avon early Friday morning.
Two lanes of Rt. 24 north were reopened after the crash shut the road down for several hours.
The road was shut down around 3 a.m. after the two-vehicle crash between exits 18 and 19.

State Police said a woman, believed to be a passenger, was thrown from a vehicle after being hit by another car - forcing the first vehicle off the road and into trees and a utility pole before coming to a stop. She suffered serious injuries. The driver of that vehicle was brought to a local hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle involved was also brought to a local hospital.

The crash took out several fiber optic lines that crews have been working to try and repair.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
