SOUTH ATTLEBORO (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A female victim was fatally struck by an Amtrak Acela train in South Attleboro on Wednesday afternoon.
Multiple crews, including Amtrak Police and the Attleboro Police and Fire Departments, responded to the crash which occurred in the area of 1130 Newport Avenue around 1:20 p.m.
The woman was reportedly struck by an inbound Acela Express in the Northeast Railroad Corridor in which MBTA Providence/Stoughton Commuter Rail also travel.
Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said none of the 197 passengers and crew on the Acela express train was hurt. He said it appears the person was trespassing on the tracks.
Rail service in both directions was immediately suspended, but Track 1 reopened at 2:23 p.m. Residual delays are expected for Amtrak service on the Northeast Corridor, as well as MBTA Commuter Rail service on the Providence/Stoughton Line.
