Woman fatally shot in Middleboro

MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Authorities say a woman was killed in an overnight shooting in Middleboro and an armed man spotted in the driveway of the home was shot and injured by police.

The Brockton Enterprise identifies the victim as 65-year-old Norma DesRoche. The suspect is identified as 52-year-old Thomas Buttimer.

Police responded to the home just after midnight Friday and found DesRoche's husband and another person performing CPR. She appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers were told there was a man with a gun outside.

Police spotted the man, reportedly identified as Buttimer, with a long-barreled firearm in the driveway. He was ordered several times to drop the weapon and pointed it at police, prompting officers to open fire. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Authorities say Buttimer was staying at DesRoche's home at the time of the shooting.

The death remains under investigation by the State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office and the Middleboro Police. Anyone with information is urged to call investigators at 508-947-8087.
