Woman escapes without injury after metal smashes windshield

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Firefighters say a woman is lucky to be uninjured after a piece of metal crashed through her car windshield during the evening commute.

The Attleboro woman was driving on Route 24 northbound in West Bridgewater just after 7:30 a.m. when it happened.

Police said the first reports from 911 callers were that a ladder had smashed through the window.

“It ended up not being a ladder but a piece of aluminum rim that fell off the back of the truck,” Deputy Fire Chief Lincoln Thibeault said.

The piece of metal was six-to-eight inches wide and went right through the glass.

“It actually entered the windshield grazed her right shoulder and fortunately wasn’t injured,” Thibeault said.

It all happened so fast the 26-year-old woman never saw it coming. She declined to go on camera, but firefighters said she is very lucky, and this is an important reminder about unexpected risks.

“You want to keep your loads tied down and safe and if you’re a driver you want to always pay attention,” Thibeault said.
