Woman, child found dead in car in RI

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island authorities are trying to determine what caused the deaths of a woman and child whose bodies were found inside a parked car.

Police responded to the scene in Warwick at about 8 p.m. Saturday on a report of an unresponsive woman in a car. Officers found the woman and a boy who was about 4-years-old dead inside.

The names of the woman and child are being withheld until after authorities notify their relatives. The causes of their deaths are under investigation.

Police say the car may have been parked at the scene since about noon, and a local resident told officers they heard a child crying later in the afternoon.

Police Chief Steven McCartney says it was upsetting that no one called authorities earlier.
