Woman charged in August fatal hit-and-run

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A woman has officially been charged in a hit-and-run from August.

Police say Jean Marie Grupillion was behind the wheel when her SUV hit 23-year-old Marcus Osborne, sending him 96 feet in the air. Osborne, a father of a young daughter, was killed.

Osborne's friends and family packed the courtroom. His mother says seeing the driver charged is helping them find justice, but it still hurts.

"Bottom line is he was my only child and he's gone," said Charlene Pina.

According to court documents, Osborne was walking with his girlfriend along Route 3A in Plymouth when he started talking about hurting himself. Police are still trying to determine how he ended up in the road, but they say he was hit and the driver kept going. Investigators say they connected Grupillion to the crash using car debris found at the scene.

"I'm sure it was a tragic accident, but she kept going. She didn't stop and didn't report anything to anybody," said Kenneth Osborne, Marcus' father.

Grupillion - a registered nurse - is charged with a misdemeanor, but prosecutors tell the family that may go up to a felony after they continue to investigate.

"The family is obviously hoping that at some point maybe during the pretrial conference that those charges will be upgraded leaving the scene causing death," said Charlene Pina.

When police say they connected Grupillion to the crash, she allegedly told them she thought she hit an animal. Marcus' family just wants to know why someone with this much damage to their car would keep driving.

"And now he has a baby that has no father and I don't have a son.... No, there's no words really," said Pina.

Grupillion is due back in court on April 6.
