Woman attacked by coyote that tested positive for rabies

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — A woman from Attleboro is recovering after she was attacked by a coyote who tested positive for rabies.

This is one of 2 attacks that have happened in Attleboro in the last week.

Monday night, Judy Place said she called police after she heard the coyote trying to get under her house. The attack happened when she went outside to show police where it was hiding.

"Next thing I know, I see her paws right where my toe is," Place said. "And I said to myself, 'uh-oh.' Kinda, this ain't good. And she latched right onto my leg."

Officers tased the coyote and put her down. Wednesday afternoon, Place was notified by the state that the coyote tested positive for rabies. She immediately started rabies shots.

This happened a few days after a coyote was seen carrying a cat in its mouth in Newton.

Massachusetts Wildlife said there have only been 9 coyote attacks on humans in Mass. since 1950.
