Woman allegedly lured out of car, assaulted on I-95 in Canton

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A 23-year-old Clinton man is being held on $10,000 bail after he allegedly tried to assault and rob a woman whom he had gotten to pull over on I-95 South in Canton on Sunday morning.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Ruddy Espinal-Torres was arrested following an incident that occurred at 6:20 a.m. on Sunday morning on I-95 South just north of Exit 11 in Canton.

During the suspect's arraignment, it was stated that the female victim was driving when the vehicle behind her began flashing its lights and honking the horn.

The victim pulled over thinking something was wrong with her car, and Espinal-Torres allegedly followed her off the road.  He told her that something was wrong with a tire, and then proceeded to reach into her vehicle.  He then allegedly assaulted the victim and tried to steal her cell phone.

A passerby noticed the struggle and came to the woman's aid.  The suspect then allegedly threw the cell phone at the victim and drove off.

State Police located the suspect's vehicle later in the day in Woburn and took Espinal-Torres into custody in Danvers.

Espinal-Torres is charged with assault and battery, unarmed robbery, unarmed robbery with intent to rob, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.  He is due back in court on June 26.
