Rhonda Ravanis, 47, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalizing property and resisting arrest.
Ravanis is accused of attacking her boyfriend in their home at 140 South Row Rd., slashing at his neck with an ax.
"I axed him, he is gone," police say she told them when officers arrived. "I just killed him."
Ravanis' boyfriend, 53-year-old Robert Volpe, was in critical but stable condition at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where he was taken when police arrived at the home just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
In addition to reportedly attacking Volpe with the ax, the Worcester County District Attorney's office alleges that Ravanis slashed a steel door and broke a window in a neighbor's home.
"I was waiting for something like this to happen with her because you know she's, she's just sick. I just really think she needs a lot of help and that's what's sad," a neighbor said.
Ravanis was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Fitchburg District Court, but a judge deemed her uncooperative and ordered her held without bail. The judge also ordered Ravanis to be evaluated for competency. She has been moved to the Worcester Recovery Center for that purpose and her arraignment in court was continued to May 22.
Both Lunenburg police officers and State police detectives continue to investigate the case.
