Woman, 85, thrown to the ground in Hingham carjacking

HINGHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An 85-year-old woman was injured in a carjacking that took place in a South Hingham parking lot Friday.

Investigators believe the carjacking was connected to an armed robbery at a Weymouth business located near the Hingham town line.

Hingham police responded to the Linden Ponds residential complex on Whiting Street just before 3:45 p.m. to assist Weymouth police in the search for two armed robbery suspects who they believe fled on foot toward Linden Ponds. While responding to the scene, witnesses told police a carjacking occurred in the Linden Ponds parking lot.

Police say the 85-year-old victim was sitting in her car when she was approached by a man who opened the car door and demanded her keys. The man then pulled her out of the car and threw her onto the pavement. He did not show a weapon in the carjacking.

The woman's car, a blue 2000 Lincoln Town car, was found abandoned in Quincy. She was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital by family members.

During the search, investigators locked down Linden Ponds. Weymouth police took one unidentified suspect into custody during the lockdown. Police have since ceased looking for a second suspect in the area.

The robbery and carjacking remains under investigation by Hingham and Weymouth detectives.
