Winthrop man facing child porn charges

WINTHROP (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 30-year-old Winthrop man has been ordered to stay away from children under 18 after his arraignment on child pornography charges.

William Krott was also held on $3,000 and ordered to surrender his passport at his Thursday arraignment in East Boston District Court.

Krott is facing five counts of possessing child pornography and one count of disseminating child pornography for his alleged connection an Internet conversation that occurred in Nov. 2012.

Investigators allege that Krott displayed an image of graphic child pornography in an online chat. The chat host's monitoring system reportedly captured an image from the chat and forwarded it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTip program. Program officials forwarded the tip to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

The district attorney's office claims they tracked the IP address back to the Quincy Avenue apartment building where Krott lives. All of the residents were interviewed and during Krott's interview, police obtained permission to search his computer. During this search, police claim they found at least five images of child pornography.

Police claim Krott made statements suggesting he downloaded child pornography onto the computer after he was confronted about the images.

Krott will be back in court on March 22.
