Widespread power outage in Cambridge impacts evening commute

CAMBRIDGE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A widespread power outage in Cambridge impacted the Thursday evening commute.

The outage caused significant delays on the Red line between Alewife and Park Street. Regular service was restored by Thursday night.

An official for NSTAR told FOX 25 the outage was believed to be the result of a transmission line issue.

The power went out at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. At the height of the outage, over 13,000 customers were without power. By 8 p.m., only 252 customers remained in the dark.

The area near Cambridgeside Galleria, MIT, and Harvard Square was impacted by the outage. Cambridgeside Galleria closed for the night as a result of the outage.
