Wheaton College student struck while walking in crosswalk

NORTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A female Wheaton College student was struck by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk on East Main Street Sunday night.

According to police, Samantha Barchard, 21, was walking in the crosswalk at Howard Street and East Main Street when she was struck by a vehicle being operated by 61-year-old Stephen Tapper, of Stoughton.

Tapper's vehicle was reportedly traveling eastbound on East Main Street. He told police that he did not see Barchard because of the victim's dark clothing and the foggy weather conditions.

The area contains three crosswalks across East Main Street that are heavily monitored and enforced by police.
