What we know about the suspect in Princeton jogger's murder

BOSTON — A suspect has been arrested in the murder of Vanessa Marcotte, according to a FOX25 source.

The suspect was arrested in the area where the murder took place, the source confirmed to FOX25 News.

That’s something investigators have long told FOX25 would happen, so what else might we already know about the suspect?

Based on a DNA profile found at the crime scene and a witness statement, the Worcester County district attorney’s office released a description of the person believed to be connected to the murder. The person was believed to be a Hispanic or Latino man with an athletic build who is about 30 years old.

The suspect would have had scratches on him last August.

Mary Ellen O’Toole, a former FBI profiler at George Mason University, spent her entire career studying cases just like this. In November, she told Bob Ward what she thought about the case.

“What you are dealing with is probably someone who is very much engaged in predatory behavior which means they are out looking for victims," O'Toole said.

The DA said that they have received more than 1,300 tips in the case, which has helped put together the suspect description.

“There is a good possibility that this person knew that area. And when you know an area, you have command over that area," O’Toole said.

There is also the murder itself. She may have been sexually assaulted, and the killer tried to set her body on fire.

“The burning is done to destroy evidence. The burning can be done to be sadistic. The burning can be done out of curiosity," O'Toole said. "If there is no relationship with the victim, if this is somebody that was walking along or more likely driving along and decided to do this. That's a unique kind of violence. It’s cold blooded, its predatory, and its without empathy, and it is purposeful. And that's the kind of violence you seen when a stranger goes after someone that they don’t know.”

In November, the DA's office said investigators were searching for a “dark-colored SUV” that was scene in the area where Marcotte’s body was found.
