Whale floating dead in Boston Harbor washes ashore in Hull

HULL (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The finback whale that has been floating dead in Boston Harbor for several days washed ashore Tuesday morning on Rainsford Island, off the coast of Hull.

According to The Boston Globe, New England Aquarium veterinarians are on their way to the scene to examine the animal.

Officials still haven't determined how the whale died, but say the marks on its body indicate a run-in with a boat or a net. But that could have happened after the death, so a cause hasn't been announced.
    
The finback is the second largest whale species on earth and experts say it's not rare to see a whale in the harbor, but it's rare to see a dead one there.

Marine experts say they can weigh between 70,000 and 90,000 pounds.

The whale carcass was the first spotted in Boston Harbor in recent memory, the newspaper reported. A necropsy is planned.
