Westford custodian charged with carrying a firearm on school grounds

WESTFORD, Mass. – A custodian at a Westford school has been arrested after allegedly bringing a firearm on school grounds.

Police were called to the Crisafulli Elementary School Tuesday after receiving a tip about a firearm that was posted on social media.

At the school, officers searched the vehicle belonging to 21-year-old James Healy and found a firearm in the trunk.

"This a serious violation of the law and school safety. The employee was arrested and will be immediately dismissed from his position," Superintendent Everett Olsen said in a letter to parents. "This is an egregious breach of public trust, school safety, and the work that our school system and public safety officials have done to keep our students and staff safe."

Healy is charged with possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device without a license, carrying a firearm on school grounds, improperly storing a large capacity firearm, defacing the serial number on a firearm and possession of ammunition without a license.

An arraignment for Healy is scheduled to take place Wednesday at Ayer District Court.
