Westfield police probe theft of $10,000 ring

WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Westfield police are investigating the gunpoint theft of a $10,000 wedding ring allegedly by man who said he was interested in buying it.

Capt. Michael McCabe says the seller advertised the ring on Craigslist then arranged to meet a potential buyer in the parking lot of a Friendly's restaurant in the city near the entrance to the Massachusetts Turnpike.

McCabe tells The Republican that the potential buyer examined the ring, then handed over a black box he said contained the agreed-upon selling price.

At that point the buyer pulled out a handgun and stole the ring.

The only description of the suspect given was that he was driving a small silver car and was last seen in the area of Springdale Road.
