Waterville babysitters charged for tying child to coffee table

WATERVILLE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Two Waterville women are each facing one count of endangering the welfare of a child after they reportedly tied a 2-year-old girl to a coffee table for several hours.

Martha Blanchard, 49, and Daniel Post, 51, were babysitting four siblings between the ages of 1 and 6 on Wednesday night when they reportedly tied up the toddler with 10 feet of nylon rope after she refused repeated requests to stay away from the refrigerator, reports The Sentinel.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m.

After two hours, Post rethought the decision to tie up the child and consulted a neighbor. The neighbor went to the apartment and found the child sleeping in soiled clothing and tied up.

The neighbor untied the girl and called police.

According to The Sentinel, the child was not visibly injured, but police deemed the situation dangerous because she was left unattended with the rope wrapped around her midsection in coils.

The women are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 4.
