Water main break causes sinkhole near Worcester intersection

WORCESTER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A water main break on May Street caused a sinkhole at the street's intersection with Beaver Brook Parkway in Worcester on Wednesday.

According to the Department of Public Works, a 16-inch water pipe came loose under May Street around 5 p.m.

Water was shut off in that area for approximately seven hours as repairs were made to an underground pipe.

Residents in the areas of May Street, Mayfield Street, and Maybrook Place were affected by the water main break and may have experienced low or no water pressure, as well as rusty water conditions.

The street is passable and open to traffic.
