Water leak causes flood at MIT frat house

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) --Boston firefighters responded to a major water leak in the basement of an MIT fraternity house on Saturday.

Fire officials responded to the Lambda Chi Alpha house at 99 Bay State Rd. near Kenmore Square in Boston, where they found at least eight to 10 feet of water in the building's basement.

The water was so deep that the building's boilers were completely submerged, and a ladder was floating on top.

Approximately 10 students were evacuated, according to the fire department, and a Boston Water and Sewer crew arrived to fix the leak, shutting down the water supply as well as the building's other utilities.

Fire officials didn't give a cause for the leak, though a number of buildings around Boston experienced burst pipes on Saturday as temperatures rose after being below zero in some places.
