Wareham officers respond to neighborly dispute involving sword, dumbbell

WAREHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Three people were arrested Sunday morning following a dispute involving a sheathed sword and a dumbbell weight on Midway Street in Wareham.

Officers responded to 10 Midway St. in the Onset section of the town for reports of a disturbance involving neighbors and weapons.

When officers arrived, they found 55-year-old George Maxim of 10A Midway St. injured on the ground and spoke to a female neighbor involved in the disturbance. She told police she was injured by Maxim.

Following an investigation, police concluded the residents of 10A and 10B Midway St. were involved in an argument that escalated when George Maxim allegedly assaulted the female resident of 10B. As a result, the woman's 19-year-old boyfriend, Zachary Lavelle, also of 10B, assaulted George Maxim.

George Maxim's 25-year-old son, Scott Maxim, then retaliated and swung a sheathed sword toward Lavelle, police said.

George Maxim was transported to Tobey Hospital and then taken to a Boston area hospital via medical helicopter for treatment of a possible head injury. The female victim was also taken to Tobey Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

George Maxim has been charged with assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon (dumbbell weight).

Scott Maxim has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (sword), and Lavelle has been charged with assault and battery.

All parties will be arraigned at Wareham Fourth District Court.
