• Wareham man tasered prior to drug arrest

WAREHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – An officer used a Taser on a 44-year-old Wareham man Friday after the suspect refused to remove his hands from his pants because he was reportedly attempting to conceal a copious amount of prescription pills.

Police pulled over Gilbert Roderick's unregistered motor vehicle on Depot Street around 7:30 p.m.

Roderick, the operator, allegedly appeared to be very nervous and would not cooperate with police when asked to remove his hands from his pants. An officer used his Taser to gain compliance.

According to police, Roderick then threw a camera case which contained an unmarked pill bottle under the vehicle.

The pill bottle reportedly contained 176 various prescription medication pills, including Oxycontin, Clonazepam, and Clonidine.

Police also found three plastic baggies containing small amounts of heroin.

Roderick told police that he had ingested several pills before the stop took place. He was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham for medical evaluation.

Roderick has been charged with a total of 11 drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute Class A, B, C, D, and E drugs. He has also been charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.
