Walpole HS football player accused of pushing teammate

A Walpole High School football player is under investigation after reports he pushed another player outside the locker room Tuesday.

Boston 25 News learned that the senior believed to have been involved reportedly pushed a freshman who had asked the coach about playing time on the varsity team.

The student who was pushed was able to practice, but went to a hospital afterward to be treated for his injuries.

As detectives work on reviewing surveillance video at the school, Superintendent Lincoln Lynch said in a statement school officials are investigating the incident.

“The incident involved a varsity player shoving and pushing a younger player in the High School. Other players were present,” the statement from Lynch said in part. “While this was not an incident of hazing, I am very disappointed and upset by the conduct of several of our student-athletes. High School Principal Stephen Imbusch feels the same way and is taking action to prevent such an incident from happening again.”

Police said school officials have taken disciplinary action against the senior.
