Walgreens selling Narcan nasal spray nationwide

Walgreens has announced it is now stocking a Narcan nasal spray at its pharmacies nationwide.

Narcan is administered if someone is overdosing. This FDA-approved nasal spray will be available at Walgreens more than 8,000 pharmacies nationwide.

"By stocking Narcan in all our pharmacies, we are making it easier for families and caregivers to help their loved ones by having it on hand in case it is needed," said Rick Gates, Walgreens group vice president of pharmacy.

The spray is available without a prescription in 45 states and Walgreens says it is working with the remaining states to make naloxone easier to obtain.

The drugstore giant says this move is part of its comprehensive national plan to combat drug abuse.

Local cities have come under fire for considering keeping Narcan in publicly accessible boxes.
