FALMOUTH, Mass. — Family, friends and classmates will say a final good-bye to a high school athlete from Falmouth who was killed in a crash.

Owen Higgins, 17, was killed in a car crash along with his best friend, 17-year-old James Lavin, just days before Christmas. The teens had been on their way home from hockey practice at the time. Police have yet to say what caused the crash.

Lavin died at the scene. Higgins was taken by medical helicopter to a Rhode Island hospital. He passed away the next day.

A wake for Higgins is scheduled for Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral is scheduled for Friday.

Lavin was laid to rest on Tuesday, and hockey players from around the region came out to pay their respects.
