Wake held for fallen Plymouth officer

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Hundreds of friends and family, as well as police officers from across the state gathered in Plymouth Monday at a wake to remember a 17-year veteran of the police department.

"It's absolute heartache," said Plymouth police officer Paul Higgins at the wake. "We're trying to pull through together."

Maloney's wife and two teenage sons arrived early to the wake, and Cardinal Sean O'Malley also arrived at the wake.

Uniformed officers marched in Maloney's honor, led by police bagpipers, while others covered for their Plymouth colleagues. Police Chief Michael Botieri said they are grateful for the support.

The 44-year-old Maloney died in an on-duty motorcycle accident on April 1. The cause remains under investigation, but authorities have said no other vehicles were involved.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday morning at St. Peter Church.
