Vote on measure to limit short-term rentals in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Cambridge City Council will vote on a measure to limit short-term rentals on websites like Airbnb Monday.

The measure would require hosts to live in the unit where the rental is located or in the same building if it has fewer than five units.

It would also require hosts to have city inspectors verify the safety of the unit.

Currently Airbnb has more than 1,600 active rentals in Cambridge.

The city councilor leading this regulator push said homeowners are already required to get permission to rent for less than a month, but few have such permits.
